The recently released Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman has garnered quite the controversy as it has sparked some spirited throughts from the likes of Boots Riley.

After Riley posted an extensive critique of the film that has since gone viral, Ron Stallworth, whose story inspired the movie, shared his thoughts on the Sorry to Both You director’s assessment in a few brief words.

Last Friday, Riley posted a three-page critique of Lee’s latest film, with his thoughts continuing on until Monday. In his assessment, he stressed that the film made Ron Stallworth — the film’s protagonist and the real man whose experiences ultimately inspired its events — appear more heroic than he actually is.

In addition to this bold claim, he further criticized Stallworth’s involvement in government infiltration of Black civil rights groups.

“For Spike to come out with a movie where a story points [sic] are fabricated in order to make Black cop and his counterparts look like allies in the fight against racism is really disappointing, to put it very mildly,” he wrote.

In response to Riley’s critique, Stallworth issued a brief statement to Okay Player which read, “I pray for my demented and dissolute brother.”

Lee is yet to publicly respond to Riley’s critiques of the film.

BlacKkKlansman, starring John David Washington, Laura Harrier and Corey Hawkins, is currently playing in theaters.
