To mark her 28th birthday, the ‘Too Little Too Late’ singer re-releases the records on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify along with two new singles titled ‘Disaster’ and ‘Demonstrate’.
JoJo has re-released updated versions of her first two albums after executives at her former label removed them from streaming services last year (17).
The “Leave (Get Out)” hitmaker found fame at the age of 13, a year after signing her first recording deal with executives at Blackground Records, who released her 2004 self-titled debut album and its follow-up, The High Road, in 2006.
They then became involved in a seven-year contractual legal battle until 2014, when she subsequently signed to Interscope Records, and last year, Blackground bosses removed those first two albums from streaming services.
On Thursday, December 20, to mark her 28th birthday, JoJo surprise released updated versions of them on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify. The track listing for both albums remain the same as the original release, but the vocals have been rerecorded and the arrangements sound slightly different on some tracks.
Back in 2017, she explained to her fans on Twitter, “My former label removed my music, I unfortunately have absolutely no control over what they do or don’t do…I want to let bygones be bygones. I pray one day they put my music back up”.
After she saw the fan reaction on social media, she tweeted, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEEEE spent today in Joshua Tree in a vortex crying so many tears of joy and appreciation. I’m so thankful to see another year and I’m THANKFUL FOR U SHOWING ME LOVE AND INSPIRING ME. ALWAYS. Love, Jo”.
