Garth Brooks successfully made everyone who watched the 2018 Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday, November swoon with his sweet tribute to Trisha Yearwood. The country singer serenaded the love of his life with a totally brand new song titled “Stronger Than Me”.

Brooks performed the ballad while strumming his guitar as the spotlight shone under Yearwood, making the whole venue look like their own world. “Every now and then she just wants me to hold her/ But that don’t mean she’s wear,” he crooned. “The fact that you’re unafraid to let your feelings show just means you’re stronger than me.”

Judging by her look, Yearwood was completely moved by his performance.

Talking to Pop Culture, Brooks said that the organizers weren’t initially keen on the plan because they thought a ballad would not “work for us.” But when he started searching for another way to let the chef hear his song, the organizers changed their mind.

While Brooks believed going solo for his set at the event was more than enough, Carrie Underwood brought a group of choir for her rendition of “Love Wins”. Standing center stage in a beautiful blue dress, the “American Idol” winner captured the attention of many with her gorgeous vocal performance. She received standing ovation by the end of her performance.

Elsewhere at the event, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line once again teamed up for a stripped-down performance of “Meant to Be”. The country group opened the set on a small stage before a second one opened up to showcase Bebe as she launched into her verse of the song. They were backed by a delicate string section and subtle piano.

A music award would not be completed without a medley performance, and that was what Chris Stapleton, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and Marty Stuart did. The biggest winner of the night kicked off their performance with his rendition of “Friendship” before the other three joined him to sing their own part. For the big finish, the collaborators sang The Staple Singers’ 1970s classic “I’ll Take You There”.

Other performers who hit the stage at the event included Keith Urban, Pistol Annies, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett.
