In 2001, a then-22-year-old Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, was accused of raping a 15-year-old named Jessica Reid. Court documents alleged Charlamagne “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously [engaging] in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen year old female child.” The Blast reported Reid was “uncooperative” and “felt a conviction of Charlamagne on the arrested charge would be impossible.” Charlamagne pled guilty to “contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was sentenced to 3 years of probation.”

Now, 17 years later, Reid, 32, is asking for the case to be reopened and she is taking the case all the way to the South Carolina Supreme Court.

The Blast is reporting Reid sent a letter to John S. Nichols, a deputy for the Supreme Court Office of Disciplinary Counsel in South Carolina, claiming she was “uncooperative” because she was  “traumatized,” and claims it was the “prosecutor’s responsibility” to defend her. The site continues, “Reid now wants to file an official claim agains the prosecution for allowing Charlamagne cut a plea deal and dismiss the charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.”

In the letter, she wrote there was “no investigation done to bring justice,” and claims Charlamagne “continues to violate me on the radio, in his book and on social media.”

Berkely County said “they will not reopen the case” because they must honor the agreement they struck with him nack in 2002.The radio host responded to the allegations via his attorneys, in a statement which read in part, “More than seventeen years ago, Charlamagne was accused of a sexual assault. He never had sexual relations or any physical contact with the accuser and even provided DNA to prove it. At the time of these claims, Charlamagne cooperated fully with authorities, and after the investigation, this charge against him was dropped.”
