Ty Hunter, the stylist for the ‘Freedom’ singer, claims that he could help the likes of Michael Costello and Rubin Singer because she is ‘the type of person who’s not into labels.’
Beyonce Knowles has helped a lot of upcoming designers kickstart their careers insisted the singer’s stylist Ty Hunter.
The superstar is considered one of the best dressed celebrities in the world, often wearing fashion-forward outfits courtesy of labels like Balmain, Givenchy and Fendi, while also drawing attention to lesser known brands such as Laquan Smith, Natasha Zinko and Zimmermann. And according to her longtime stylist, the “Lemonade” hitmaker has always been happy to experiment.
“Beyonce’s the type of person who’s not into labels. She’s like, ‘Whatever’s hot, why not?’ That’s what I liked about her,” he smiled in an interview with W magazine. “I was able to help a lot of young designers and start their careers, while working for her, like Michael Costello and Rubin Singer. Whatever she feels comfortable in works. That’s why we were able to help a lot of peoples’ careers-and still do.”
The fashionista is pleased Beyonce got a chance to collaborate with some of the biggest brands in the world, as he admitted the star didn’t always have as much choice in the style stakes while she was in Destiny’s Child with bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams (II). Luckily, that changed when the trio released their chart-topping single “Independent Women” in September 2000.
“When I started, the reason why the girls wore Mrs. Tina so much is because no one would let us pull. It took ‘Independent Woman’ for people to start looking at the group seriously,” he recalled in an interview with W magazine. “There were showrooms that had their favorites like, ‘You can only dress Kelly.’ ‘You can only put clothes on Michelle.’ ‘You can only pull for Beyonce.’ It was like that sometimes. I loved the designers that allowed me to take a chance and show a full story and have their clothes on three beautiful women. But the ones that got it, got it.”
